The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max were officially announced alongside the 9th generation iPad, 6th generation iPad Mini, Apple Watch Series 7, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini by a virtual press event filmed and recorded at Apple Park in Cupertino, California on September 14, 2021. Pre-orders began on September 17 at 5:00 AM PST. Pricing starts at US$999 for the iPhone 13 Pro and US$1099 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, same as their respective previous generations. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max's design is mostly unchanged from its predecessor. However, the rear camera module now covers a larger area due to the larger lenses. The Face ID and camera module on the front display, or "notch", is now 20% smaller than previous generations. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are available in four colors: Silver, Graphite, Gold, and Sierra Blue. Sierra Blue is a new color replacing Pacific Blue.

NAA is just software that runs on a device such as a raspberry pi or Sonore rendu that allows it to receive a stream from hq player running on the server. The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max uses an Apple-designed A15 Bionic processor featuring a 16-core neural engine, 6-core CPU (with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), and 5-core GPU. You can run Roon and Hqplayer on the same sever if you want toĥ Blow the budget and get a Grimm MU1 which does all of the above in a single box.

If you don’t want hq player you don’t need a very powerful nuc and can run the Roon rock operating system which is free with roonĤ If you do want Hqplayer, you can run this on a separate server, but it will need to be fairly powerful to get the most out of it. This allows the Roon core to be run in a different room and isolated from the dacģ. Add something like a Sonore optical rendu or Raspberry pi to act as an end point. You can also see if hq player upsampling is better than Roon’s to your ears.Ģ.

This is probably the best first step as it won’t cost you anything as you can get trial versions of the software. This can be fed into the DAC using a usb cable. Run Roon core (which is their name for the Roon server) and Hqplayer on your MacBook and control it using the Roon app on a tablet. You can also keep the computer running the server software in a different room to your hifi.ġ. The advantage with this is that the computer is isolated from the DAC so you don’t get the crap from your computer going to your DAC via the usb cable. If you use your Mac, you would have Hqplayer running on the Mac as the server app and then stream over your local network to the Sonore using NAA, which is the protocol used by hq player. The Sonore optical rendu is used as a Roon end point or a client if you only use hq player. That way you can get the best interface and the best upsampling. You can use the upsampling facility in it or integrate it with HQ player. I ended up using Roon which has by far the nicest interface and was the most stable. I gave up on Audirvana as I found it quite buggy However from my experience at least I could tell no difference between Audirvana and Roon. I tried this before Roon as it has been said it sounds better. It is much nicer to use than hq player, but is not so good at upsampling. I tried Audirvana which has limited upsampling facilities. There is a remote app that you can use to control the program running on your Mac using a tablet. You can stream from Qobuz using Hqplayer player, but the application is horrible to use in my opinion. it won’t cost you anything to see if you can get it to work and if you like it. It’s not the simplest software to setup, so it does help to know a bit about computers.

You can give it a try for free as the trial allows you to use it for 30 mins after which you need to reconnect. There is also a lag of several seconds up to about 30 seconds depending upon how much number crunching you are doing.

You will need a more powerful computer to do that. However it wont work at the highest sampling rates and with some of the conversion algorithms. HQ player will run on your Mac and can connect to the DAC using usb.

I have tried hq player, Audirvana, Dirac Live and Roon using a Mac mini m1 and Sonore optical rendu.
